This community has been launched to show the world that there is more to entertainment than we reckon. We are going to expose a whole new world that has not been explored.

Company Facts

  • The Scrummy Ice –Cream was founded in the beginning of January 2020 and started operating on the 17th of May 2020.
  • We have employed 15 people and we are looking at employing more by the end of the year.
  • The business makes enough to pay salaries, cover our costs and still have enough to save.
  • The Scrummy Ice-Cream is still in the growth phase, as much as we have employed 15 people in 3 months we need to up-skill our staff, put in place business management technology and expand our business in other locations nationally and internationally.

Thandeka and Nhlanhla Selepe were connected by their love for ice-cream and together they birthed “The Scrummy Ice-cream” to share their love , experience and sweet addiction with everyone else.

Nhlanhla is a husband who has a clear, logical mind with a practical approach to problem-solving and a drive to see things through to completion. He has 8 years safety experiences across multiple sectors. He regards himself highly in business and making The Scrummy Ice-cream business a success.

Thandeka was born and raised in Soweto. I am a mother and a wife. I am a visionary and passionate enough to take risks. I have been called a moving tuck shop from selling sweets at school to owning an event planning company called “Grandeur Soiree” and I am a founder and creative director of Cush La Cush cushions – a company that supplies retail companies and interior designers. I have 8 years of experience as a senior Inventory Analyst. I love nature and people.

Company Story

Ice-cream has always been our favourite and it has been something that evokes memories of comfort, happiness, laughter and fun. When the Covid-19 pandemic started, all we ever wanted to do was to instil those comforting memories to our community and customers. That is how The Scrummy Ice-Cream was created.

One of the problems we faced was that we started our business in a difficult time in our country (Covid-19) and we were limited to do what we have initially planned to do as a business. Electricity issues have also been one of our challenges that created a big loss for us but we have managed to resolve this issue by purchasing a generator so we can minimize closing the business unnecessarily.

The Scrummy Ice-cream is a business based in Soweto that creates unique and scrumptious ice-cream for sweet toothed customers. Our bespoke creations have provided a sensory feast that is a celebration of flavour , texture and incredible design. Our mission is to provide a sensory experience for our customers that will use all their senses and transport them to a “Happy place” when enjoying our tasty products. Our goal is to ultimately allow customers to have this tasty experience at branches across the country – to expand beyond Soweto and ultimately beyond South Africa. Our business is where it is right now because we do this with love and we have poured a ton of heart and soul into our business. We strive at giving our customers the best service.

I first didn’t believe about this Ice Cream in winter, but I’ve realised that this generation can do anything and succeed.
