Ba Bethe Gashoazen, widely hailed as the godfather of Lekompo, has officially signed a partnership with Sony Music Entertainment Africa, marking a new era in his groundbreaking career. Known for pioneering the Lekompo sound with hits like Chokeslam, Mapara, and Spikareng, Ba Bethe has helped shape a genre that’s become one of South Africa’s most exciting sonic movements.
“This partnership is to take the Lekompo sound to the next level,” he said. “This is for everyone that built this culture to the point where major record labels are now backing it.”
For Ba Bethe, the goal has always been to see Lekompo evolve beyond borders. “We’re touching places we’ve never been, and people are already feeling the sound. I don’t want Lekompo to be another genre that fades — it must grow and create more opportunities.”
The partnership with Sony represents more than just distribution — it’s about expanding reach, building sustainability, and empowering the Lekompo community with access to global infrastructure. “Sony Music has helped me understand the music business better. Two heads are better than one. They can help push the music further than I can alone, and that means more streams, more capital, and bigger opportunities.”

As he enters this next chapter, Ba Bethe is gearing up to release a new single on 15 August 2025, featuring Limpopo’s powerhouse Makhadzi and Bacardi legend Enny Man Da Guitar. “All I know and all I am is music. I’ve done it alone for years, but there’s only so far you can go by yourself. This new journey with Sony is a blessing, and the future looks promising.”
Ba Bethe Gashoazen’s move signals a turning point for Lekompo — from local wave to global movement.
Keep Up With Ba Bethe Gashoazen
