The Friends of Amstel experience made its grand return to Soweto this past weekend, and the township responded in full force. Hosted at the beautiful Soweto Country Club, the event was sold out and from the moment guests arrived, it was clear why. This wasn’t just a concert; it was an experience crafted to perfection, where music, lifestyle, and culture met under one golden banner.

Guests were welcomed into a stunning Amstel-branded landscape, lush open lawns, striking red-and-white décor, shaded lounges, and a layout that balanced comfort with elegance. Every small detail was considered: well-maintained toilets, accessible water stations, delicious food stalls, and complimentary beverages that kept everyone refreshed throughout the day. The aesthetic was unmatched, effortlessly blending sophistication with Soweto’s raw, authentic energy.
Safety and structure were top priorities, the Park & Ride system was a standout success. By directing guests to park offsite and shuttle to the “secret” venue, Amstel ensured smooth access, zero congestion, and a relaxed atmosphere. It was a brilliant move that not only made travel seamless but also prevented any potential mishaps. The entire day ran without incident, no reports of accidents, delays, or negative experiences, a testament to the flawless planning behind the scenes.
When it came to the performances, Friends of Amstel Soweto set a new standard. Every artist on the lineup showed up and delivered, leaving the crowd in awe from start to finish. The stage came alive with powerhouse acts including Cassper Nyovest, Kabza De Small, Oscar Mbo, Sjava, Zee Nxumalo, Nasty C, Focalistic, Bucie, K.O., DJ Tira, Mörda, DJ Stokie, Njelic, Banques, and Njelic, who proudly represented Soweto’s musical heartbeat with an unforgettable performance. Each act brought their own flavour, from smooth vocals and high-energy dance sets to crowd-shaking anthems that united thousands in pure celebration.
Adding an extra spark to the day was Robot Boii, who owned the stage as host and MC. His infectious energy, humor, and charisma carried the event from daylight to nightfall, keeping spirits high and the crowd engaged throughout. Whether introducing artists or dancing alongside the audience, Robot Boii’s presence was the thread that held the day together, a true showman.
Amstel SA took a moment to announce its partnership with Orlando Pirates, unveiling a dedicated Dome filled with soccer-inspired games and activities. It became a fan-favorite spot, with guests, including myself, jumping in for a few rounds of table soccer and soaking in the excitement.
Just when the night couldn’t feel more magical, the Amstel Hot Air Balloon rose beautifully into the evening sky, a perfectly timed spectacle that captured the crowd’s attention and became one of the event’s most memorable highlights.
By the end of the night, Friends of Amstel Soweto had delivered something rare, an event that felt both premium and personal, grand yet grounded. It was more than just great music; it was a moment of unity, joy, and pride for Soweto and South Africa at large.
From the flawless execution to the incredible lineup and seamless guest experience, Amstel once again proved why its Friends of Amstel series stands in a league of its own, slow-brewed, perfectly crafted, and made to be shared among friends.
