Cape Town’s party scene has been quite a jump, and one cannot help but give credit to Between Friends, an event curated by the clothing brand Broke in collaboration with Klipdrift. The night boasts performances from acts that celebrate and push forth a great sense of South Africa’s music and dance culture. Between Friends is slowly becoming a staple in the events space, it’s a worthy offering for young professionals and individuals that are involved or have aspirations in the creative scene. Crowds of fashionable young people come out in numbers creating a sense of community and a spirited feeling in the air driven by South Africa’s elaborate dance culture.
Between Friends event series first took place in Cape Town at the Terrace Rooftop on the 16th of March 2024 with Kabza de Small as a headline act and they have successfully managed to pull off two more shows later that year in November and December 2024 again with glorified acts like DBN Gogo, Dj Stokie, Njelic and Dlala Thukzin. The event series continued in Cape Town with its fourth edition on the 28th of March 2025. Their biggest event, also celebrating a one-year anniversary, was held at The Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock and the line-up included, Thakzin, Felo Le Tee, Shakes & Les and the Workaholics.

For their latest installment, the event series hosted its first show in Johannesburg on the 5th of April 2025 with Oscar Mbo, Mellow & Sleazy, the Workaholics and LeloWhatsGood featured in the line-up. Performances were received exceptionally as the audience danced through every set with vigour. The weather was not in the best conditions but luckily the venue was enclosed and packed to the brim allowing for an energetic, crowdful party experience with a touch of intimacy. This was proof enough that extending Between Friends beyond its Cape Town homeground to a wider national audience just might be what the country needs.
