Award-winning hitmaker Mlindo The Vocalist is officially back—and he’s setting the tone for his third studio album Uhambo – The Journey with the release of a heartfelt and cinematic new single, “Inkomo Zika Baba”, featuring long-time collaborator DJ Maphorisa, Cowboii and Madumane.
After the deeply personal reflections of his self-titled sophomore album Lindokuhle, and the explosive success of his debut Emakhaya, Mlindo opens a new chapter—one rooted in growth, experience, and purposeful storytelling. Uhambo – The Journey promises to chronicle his evolution not only as an artist, but as a man finding deeper meaning through music.
And what better way to begin this journey than with “Inkomo Zika Baba”—a poignant anthem wrapped in infectious Amapiano textures, and guided by the spirit of tradition and romantic devotion.
“This song is special to me,” says Mlindo. “It features DJ Maphorisa, who was there at the very beginning of my journey. Our first big hit together was AmaBlesser. Starting this new chapter with him feels like a full circle moment.”
The record carries that emotional weight. On it, Mlindo delivers his signature heartfelt vocals, while Cowboii and Madumane add both texture and flair. DJ Maphorisa, once again, proves why he remains one of South Africa’s most trusted sonic architects—blending emotion with groove in a way that hits home.
True to Mlindo’s reputation as a master of relatable narratives, “Inkomo Zika Baba” tells the story of a man so in love he’s willing to give it all—literally—to make the woman of his dreams his wife. From pawning everything to borrowing from loan sharks, even offering up all of his father’s cows, it’s a raw and romantic gesture that blends humour, drama, and heart.
“It’s about that deep love,” he explains. “The kind that pushes you to do absolutely anything to show someone their worth. It’s exaggerated, yes—but it’s real. A lot of us have been there, or know someone who has.”
As a lead single, “Inkomo Zika Baba” is more than a teaser—it’s a declaration. It marks the start of an era in which Mlindo embraces his full creative power, still rooted in traditional melodies and township tales, but now amplified by maturity, perspective, and cultural pride.
Uhambo – The Journey promises more of what fans love about Mlindo: music with meaning, songs that speak to our everyday experiences, and vocals that carry the weight of lived truth.
The album is now available for pre-order, and if this first single is any indication, listeners are in for a moving and memorable ride.
