DJ PRULUV, one of South Africa’s leading female entertainers, has recently launched PRULUV WELLNESS, a mental wellness safe space aimed at providing support and resources for individuals struggling with mental health issues. This initiative follows the release of her award-nominated song “NGEKE,” featuring Boohle, which has received two nominations at the BASADI IN MUSIC AWARDS (BIMA) for Best DJ of the Year and Best Collaboration of the Year.
For over a decade, DJ PRULUV has been a staple in the South African entertainment industry, gracing clubs, hosting radio shows, and MCing prestigious events. However, behind her vibrant public persona, she has been privately battling Clinical Stress, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety, and ADHD.
Despite her fears of the stigma surrounding mental health issues, DJ PRULUV has decided to share her story publicly. “It’s been a long time coming and I’m glad we’re finally here,” she says. “When I was put on antidepressants after being diagnosed in 2010, God told me that it’s not about me, but about all the people who will heal through my journey.”
Her journey towards mental wellness has not been easy. DJ PRULUV recalls a period of isolation and shame, which led to suicidal thoughts and a month-long hospitalization in a wellness ward. The experience was both emotionally and financially taxing, revealing a harsh reality: many South Africans cannot afford the same level of treatment.
This realization fueled her passion to create PRULUV WELLNESS. As a Cell C See Youth Ambassador, DJ PRULUV has been conducting mental wellness and career motivational talks in schools. Now, with PRULUV WELLNESS, she aims to reach a broader audience, including unemployed adults, the workforce, parents, and anyone in need of mental health support.
UNICEF’s 2022 U-Report South Africa poll highlights the urgency of such initiatives, with 73% of children and young people expressing a need for mental health support. Moreover, the Employee Assistance Professionals Association of South Africa reports that up to 25% of South African employees may be diagnosed with depression during their employment, yet only a small fraction will seek help.
PRULUV WELLNESS is designed to be a judgment-free space where individuals can heal and learn coping mechanisms without the stigma often attached to mental health issues. DJ PRULUV emphasizes the importance of sharing her journey to help others: “I realized that it would be the greatest injustice to die and take the information and experiences of my journey of healing to the grave when they could have helped someone else.”
Her openness and advocacy come at a time when mental health awareness is more critical than ever. DJ PRULUV’s transparency and dedication to mental wellness aim to inspire others to seek help and understand that success and mental health struggles can coexist.
DJ PRULUV invites everyone to join her on this journey of healing through PRULUV WELLNESS. “I am still healing and have made peace with the fact that it may be a lifetime journey, but we strive for wholeness. Let’s Heal Together.”

On June 27, 2024, DJ PRULUV received two nominations at the BASADI IN MUSIC AWARDS (BIMA) for Best DJ of the Year and Best Collaboration of the Year for her song “NGEKE” featuring Boohle. Congratulations to DJ PRULUV for these well-deserved recognitions!
