The Yellow nation were the first to hit the back of the net in the 45th minute through a brilliantly taken goal by Teboho Mokoena just before the end of the first half.
True to their mantra, ikhosi aliphel’ umoya, the Chiefs put up a much-spirited fight in the second half and equalized in the 57th minute. Wandile Duba, who has just come back from injury, brought the excitement back by giving his team hope when all seemed lost.
But it was in the dying minutes of the game when Ashely Du Preez sealed the victory for the Phefeni side after converting from a cross that came from the right flank of field, leading to the stadium erupting in jubilation as the Amakhosi fans celebrated what looked set to be a historic win against a very strong Mamelodi Sundowns side.
SUPERSUB DU PREEZ KEEPS CUP DREAM ALIVE
The last time Chiefs went to the Nedbank Cup Final was in 2019, where they lost 1-0 to TS Galaxy. They will meet the Orlando Pirates on the 10th of May in what looks to be a riveting cup final.
Kaizer Cheifs to taste their first ever final after 5 years. Pressure will mount for the Chiefs players to get their first silverware after a decade of drought . Coach Nabi will need to put his lucky charm as he did previously with his first stint at Younger FC.
