Under the soft glow of fairy lights and the ambient buzz of Forest Road Design & Decor in Fourways, Johannesburg’s creative elite gathered for a night where music, style, and spirit collided — quite literally. Control Magazine was front and centre at Mote, Wine Wednesday, transformed into a full-sensory celebration for Zanda Zakuza’s “Tears and Tequila” EP Listening Launch, and trust us — this was no ordinary midweek affair.
Sponsored by Hendrick’s Gin and Volcan Tequila, the event lived up to its name, pairing smooth sips with soul-stirring sounds. A wave of excitement pulsed through the crowd, not just for the music, but for what the night represented: Zanda’s bold new chapter as an independent artist launching her very own label.
“This isn’t just about dropping an EP,” Zanda told us with a gleam in her eye, “It’s about stepping into my power. This is the start of something bigger.”

And big it was. The guest list read like a who’s-who of South African entertainment, with electric performances by Makhadzi, Naak Musiq, C-Live, Zaba, and Msongi bringing the house down. From afro-pop to amapiano, every beat echoed the theme of freedom, expression, and reinvention.
Zanda, draped in understated elegance, took to the stage to offer attendees an exclusive first listen of Tears and Tequila, dropping soon. The EP blends vulnerability with vibrancy, heartbreak with heat — a sonic cocktail that lingers long after the music stops.
From the title track’s emotional candour to the rhythmic sparkle of uptempo anthems, Tears and Tequila is a masterstroke in balancing personal storytelling with mainstream appeal. If the crowd’s reaction was anything to go by, fans are in for a treat.
Tears. Tequila. And a whole lot of triumph.
Keep Up With Zanda Zakuza
