South African storyteller and sonic healer Muneyi has been named the 2025 Standard Bank Young Artist Award winner in the Music category, solidifying his place as one of the country’s most important cultural voices.
Known for blending Tshivenda folktales with contemporary sound, Muneyi’s work is deeply personal, spiritual, and socially relatable. From his 2022 performance at @lweimusic’s concert at the State Theatre to his features with artists like Msaki, his journey has been nothing short of powerful.
Reflecting on the moment, fellow creative @nickybglobal shared:
“Ever since I first saw him perform, I’ve been inspired and healed by his artistry.”
Muneyi himself responded with gratitude and vulnerability:
“Thank you to my friends who hold me down, to @standardbankarts and @nationalartsfestival for championing the arts so gracefully… ”
Reacting to the win, Standard Bank Arts wrote:
“Big congratulations to @muneyi_ SBYA 2025 for Music!Blending Tshivenda folktales with modern soundscapes, Muneyi’s music is a soulful force — rooted in heritage, healing, and heart. A true storyteller and sonic craftsman.”
The SBYA, backed by Standard Bank and the National Arts Festival, celebrates the next generation of trailblazing artists. For Muneyi, this is more than an accolade, it’s recognition of a voice that dares to feel, heal, and uplift.
