Universal Music South Africa recently honored two of the country’s most dynamic music acts, Zakes Bantwini and the duo Kususa, for their outstanding achievements. Zakes Bantwini’s hit single “Asanda,” featuring Argento Dust, received a platinum plaque. His single “Mama Thula” earned a gold plaque. Kususa also received recognition for their contributions to “Asanda.”
The celebratory event took place at Universal Music’s offices in Rosebank, acknowledging the artists’ growing influence on both local and international music scenes. Known for his genre-defying sound, Zakes Bantwini continues to innovate and inspire, while Kususa’s distinct blend of electronic and Afro-house music has captivated audiences worldwide.

“Today, we celebrate not just individual talent, but the collective spirit of creativity that Zakes and Kususa represent,” said Manusha Sarawan from Universal Music South Africa. “Their music has inspired many and helped elevate South African music on a global stage.”
Zakes Bantwini expressed his gratitude for the recognition, saying, “This honor is a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in our journeys. I’m grateful to Universal Music for their support.”
Kususa added, “We are humbled by this recognition and excited to continue sharing our music with the world.” They also announced their upcoming album, A Life Worth Living, set for release on November 1, 2024. Fans can pre-add the album today by visiting this link.
